This has been one of my favorite used bookstores of all time! Everything in it is donated to the shop. But many books are in excellent well kept shape because people in Fairbanks Ranch or Rancho Santa Fe donate old books they no longer read as a tax write off. I own art books that Joan Kruk used to own in the 1980's. She is the wife of McDonalds owner and creator and she used to own the San Diego Padres in the late 1980's. At the half off sale I purchased an art book from the 1930's to 1950's about Edward Hicks the American naive folk artist who painted scenes of Noahs Ark and The Garden of Eden with lots of wild animals with Adam and Eve. Edward Hicks was alive as a painter during the early mid 1800's in America. I have had my eye on the book since early part of summer in late May or early June! I got some other treasures I can't wait to be able to use and read once this semester is over and all my classwork and homework is completed! I got a softcover book of the dark detail painting imagery of Helwein for just 5 bucks! I already own a hardback book about him. This softcover book is older from the mid to early 1980's! I like going to this bookshop so much that I told one of the lead volunteers who knows me over the last 9 years that I shopped there all the time that I would make them a ceramic paperweight of a fantasy castle for the table top desk that will say on it's side: Book Cellar.
It's my way of saying that I love this wonderful gem of a store and give back to the shop without just more money purchases of rare books!
